'Until Dawn 2,' a horror game that uniquely explores themes of choice and survival, has been revealed in a surprise announcement.
Unveiled during the State of Play on the 3rd, Until Dawn 2 is the sequel to the 2015 PS4 title Until Dawn. A notable change is the developer: this installment is being handled by Firesprite, a Sony-owned studio, rather than Supermassive Games, which created the original. This marks Firesprite's first original project since collaborating with Guerrilla Games on the VR title 'Horizon Call of the Mountain.'
Although it carries the '2' in its title, the game features a new cast and an entirely different story. The protagonists are operators of a popular channel dedicated to ghost hunting. While they have filmed many viral horror videos, they were all staged. However, the island they visit hides a secret that has persisted for centuries. As shown in the trailer, the characters soon find themselves facing mortal threats one by one.
The core of this title remains the choice-and-consequence system, where every character can either live or die. It retains the framework of the original, where even minor choices can trigger a butterfly effect, leading to unpredictable endings. The trailer also features the return of Dr. Hill, played by Peter Stormare, confirming that the new story takes place within the same universe as the original.
Firesprite announced that it will release information on the story, gameplay, and new characters sequentially over the coming months.
Until Dawn 2 is scheduled for release on PS5 in 2027.
