NEXUS has revealed the brand identity and teaser video for Frost Kingdom, its first self-published strategy game.
According to a release, Frost Kingdom is a medieval strategy simulation game (SLG) that combines traditional strategy mechanics with merge gameplay. The title is set to launch on iOS, Android and PC, with a global version featuring blockchain integration. The game is currently open for pre-registration through its official website. Players will be able to earn tiered rewards, including heroes and skins, depending on the total number of registrations.
Frost Kingdom has been described by NEXUS as the ‘World’s First Web3 SLG’. SLG games typically focus on resource production, territory expansion, alliance competition and large-scale player-versus-player (PvP) battles. According to the release, NEXUS believes the genre is suited to blockchain integration due to its connection with in-game economies, tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and on-chain assets.
The game will feature over 100 unit types, alongside a hero progression system split across four grades. Instead of using a traditional growth system, Frost Kingdom will allow players to combine buildings and troops through merge mechanics to progress faster.
Henry Chang, CEO of NEXUS, commented: “While MMORPGs have shown success in the blockchain space through their economic structures, SLGs possess even more sophisticated systems, allowing for even greater synergy with blockchain technology.
“Frost Kingdom will be the first title to implement AI agent-based automated game operations. It represents a landmark case where blockchain boosts revenue while allowing a small team to efficiently manage a large-scale game.”
NEXUS enters self-publishing
Frost Kingdom marks NEXUS’ first move into self-publishing, with the company aiming to operate the title across mobile and PC platforms. The announcement also comes as blockchain gaming companies continue to explore ways to integrate Web3 technology into traditional game genres. However, blockchain games have often faced scrutiny from players due to concerns around monetisation, asset ownership and long-term sustainability.
By positioning Frost Kingdom as a strategy-led title first, NEXUS is looking to connect blockchain elements with a genre already built around player economies and long-term progression. Further details on Frost Kingdom’s release date, blockchain features and esports or competitive plans have not yet been announced.
