Capcom has confirmed that its new sword-action title, 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword,' will launch on September 25, 2026. A demo was also released alongside the announcement.

Capcom unveiled a new trailer for the latest entry in the series, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, during the State of Play event on the 3rd, announcing its September 25 release. Set in early Edo-period Kyoto, the protagonist, Musashi, must face the Genma—bizarre and ferocious monsters roaming the historic city.

The trailer is set on Mount Ooe, a location known for its many legends regarding yokai extermination. The footage focuses on a confrontation with a massive Genma that has made the mountain its base. While the creature claims to be the legendary oni Shuten-doji, Capcom has left it ambiguous whether this claim is true.

Combat centers on a variety of sword-fighting actions. Capcom highlighted realistic impact in its slashing mechanics, sword-on-sword duels centered on parrying and deflecting, the series' signature 'Issen' (one-flash) strike, and superhuman abilities manifested through the power of the oni. The announcement also showcased new mechanics, such as combos that fill a gauge through consecutive dodges followed by powerful counterattacks, the use of oni power to shatter enemy defenses, and traversal skills like wall-running to reach new areas.

The demo, released alongside the trailer, covers the first 30 minutes of the game, allowing players to experience Musashi's various actions firsthand. While progress from the demo does not carry over to the full game, players with a demo save file will receive special in-game bonuses.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on PC, PS5, and XSX|S.
