Blizzard has officially confirmed that it is developing a 'Diablo' animated series with Netflix. A project shrouded in rumors for nearly eight years has finally received official confirmation.

Blizzard officially announced its collaboration with Netflix for Diablo during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony held at the Anaheim Convention Center on September 12 local time. Blizzard CEO Johanna Faries took the stage to state that she would share news of upcoming titles alongside leaders from various franchises. In doing so, she revealed that a collaboration with Netflix is underway as part of an effort to expand 'Diablo' into other media.
CEO Faries highlighted the "entertainment of Blizzard Entertainment," emphasizing that the company is now able to showcase its vast universe built over time beyond the medium of gaming.
What makes this news particularly notable is the history behind the project itself. Talks of a 'Diablo' animated adaptation trace back to 2018. Rumors first sparked when Andrew Cosby, screenwriter and co-founder of BOOM! Studios, posted—and subsequently deleted—a tweet stating he was in final negotiations with Netflix for a Diablo animated series. Credibility grew further in 2019 when it was confirmed that Blizzard had filed a trademark for Diablo-related video media, and again in 2020 when a description reading "Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's IP, rendered in anime style" was spotted on the LinkedIn profile of Nick van Dyk, former co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios.
However, speculation arose that the project had been canceled after related references were quietly removed in 2024. Despite Netflix having already proven market viability with gaming IP adaptations like The Witcher and Castlevania, Blizzard's projects completely vanished for several years. That very project has now been officially confirmed through this announcement.
During the BlizzCon announcement, only imagery regarding the production of the Diablo animated series with Netflix was revealed, with no further details provided. However, CEO Faries built anticipation for future screen adaptations of Blizzard IPs, hinting that major discussions are underway for fans of Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and other franchises to look forward to.
