The Apothecary Diaries, which recently announced a live-action adaptation, is now being released as a game.
A new mystery adventure game currently being developed by Koei Tecmo, 'The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother (working title)', was revealed for the first time during Nintendo Direct. The official website, trailer, and Steam page were also released, with the game scheduled to launch in early 2027.
The title features a brand-new original story conceptualized by Hyuganatsu, author of the original series. While investigating mysteries within the rear palace, protagonist Maomao becomes entangled in an incident surrounding a man claiming to be the imperial brother.
Gameplay follows an adventure format where players explore scenes and question witnesses to gather evidence and information, then organize their findings to deduce the truth behind each case. Players must present appropriate information depending on the situation to gain new clues, and repeatedly making incorrect choices can stall the investigation.
Maomao's specialty of concocting medicine also serves as a key system. Players can collect herbs and ingredients to craft required medicines, with crafting difficulty and the completed medicine's effectiveness varying depending on the ingredients used.
The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother is scheduled to launch in early 2027 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, according to its Steam page, Korean language support is not available.
