At the 2020 Game Awards, Nintendo announced yet another Smash Ultimate character, Sephiroth, the main antagonist from Final Fantasy VII. Sephiroth marks the fourth new character added throughout the year, following Fire Emblem's Byleth last January, Arms' Min Min this June, and finally Minecraft's Steve this October.
UPDATE 10/1: Minecraft Steve, the default male avatar of Minecraft, has been added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. An additional presentation that will go in-depth on Minecraft Steve as a Smash character will happen on Friday, 10/3.

Rumors of Super Smash Bros. Melee's demise have been greatly exaggerated. During Smash major Get On My Level 2019, Melee peaked at 65,000 viewers on Twitch. According to statistics provided by TwitchTracker, Melee's peak viewership during the tournament surpassed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's peak viewership by 20,000 viewers.
