SK Telecom T1 parts ways with Mata; reportedly re-signs Effort to 2-year deal

A report by ESPN Esports' Tyler "Fionn" Erzberger has confirmed that 2019 LCK champion SK Telecom T1 has made its first move of the off-season. Support Lee "Effort" Sang-ho has been re-signed to the South Korean organization on a two-year deal.

SKT's splash signing of World Champion Support Cho "Mata" Se-hyeong was one of the biggest splashes of last year's off-season, but the former Samsung Galaxy White captain was unable to help the team out of its 2019 LCK Summer Split slump. In subbing Mata out for Effort, SKT lost in experience and shotcalling but gained in mechanics and playmaking ability to match with the elite talents of AD Carry Park "Teddy" Jin-seong.

With Effort as the starting Support, SKT followed up on its 2019 LCK Spring championship with a repeat performance in summer, but fell short at Worlds 2019 in a 3-1 Semifinals loss to G2 Esports. Still, Effort has performed to a level to make the SK Telecom T1 organization believe he is part of the future.

In lieu of re-signing Effort, T1 has also agreed to sever ties with Mata, the latter of whom is now a free agent ahead of the 2020 LoL Esports season.
