Bethesda is preparing to reveal that its next Elder Scrolls game will be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, according to a report from The Verge.

The Verge's Senior Correspondent Tom Warren wrote in his Notepad newsletter on October 29th that sources familiar with Bethesda's plans told him the Xbox-owned publisher is about to announce the title. The reveal could come as soon as next month, around 15 years since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released. Warren said he expects only a name reveal and nothing more. Bethesda has not commented on the report, and the name has not been confirmed.

What the report says about Sentinel

According to the report, Bethesda has been showing Sentinel gameplay in recent months. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly saw a live playthrough in August, praising the scale of the game and saying "the story is even greater."

Warren also reported that the game will be set in Hammerfell, a province of the Elder Scrolls world that has appeared before in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online. He added that Sentinel will be the first game in the series about the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the mysterious ancient artifacts the series is named after, and will help uncover their secrets.

Where The Elder Scrolls VI stands

Bethesda first confirmed The Elder Scrolls VI with a short teaser at E3 2018, when the game was described as being in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios, the developer of Skyrim and Fallout 4. Very little has been shown since.

In July, Bethesda Game Studios shared a roadmap for its three main series, calling The Elder Scrolls VI its top priority, with most of its developers assigned to it. The studio said the game had reached its planned milestones and was being played daily, and that it is being built on Creation Engine 3 alongside Fallout 5.
