The 'Death Stranding' anime series will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
Kojima Productions released the official teaser trailer for its original animated series 'Death Stranding Isolations' today (30th) via its official YouTube channel. The anime series is based on creator Hideo Kojima's flagship IP 'Death Stranding', which has surpassed 20 million cumulative players worldwide. Kojima Productions previously teased its first global streaming partnership with Disney+ and plans for an anime adaptation during last year's 'Disney+ Originals Preview' event. With today's teaser trailer release, the studio unveiled the official finalized title—dropping its working title tag—alongside details on the art direction and main staff.
The approximately 45-second official teaser released on the 30th opens with the back of a porter looking down from the edge of a desolate cliff at a massive crater with a blue column rising from its center. The scene then transitions indoors—where a figure of Kojima Productions' mascot 'Ludens' rests—showing a sleeping blonde girl wearing a visor inscribed with the word 'SLEEP'.
Intercut scenes depict black tar handprints appearing on glass, countless black hands surging from the ground, and an unidentified entity approaching the girl, vividly bringing to life in 2D animation the game's signature supernatural phenomenon, the 'Death Stranding', and the threat of BTs. The video concludes with a close-up of the girl's green eyes as she wakes gasping from a nightmare, followed by the title logo and the text 'Exclusively on Disney+ in 2027'.
According to the official synopsis from Kojima Productions, 'Death Stranding Isolations' shares the same universe and timeline as the original game while telling a standalone, original story. Set during the exact period when legendary porter Sam Porter Bridges crossed North America to reconnect the continent, the series highlights how unnamed individuals struggled to overcome isolation and disconnect in their own distinct ways.
The credits at the end of the teaser trailer revealed the full main staff list for the first time, including series composition writer Tow Ubukata alongside previously announced key personnel. Original creator Hideo Kojima leads the overall project as executive producer, while animation production is handled by rising studio E&H Production, acclaimed for its artwork on 'Ninja Kamui' and 'BULLET/BULLET'. Original character designs are created by Ilya Kuvshinov, who served as animation director for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' ending theme 'Let You Down' music video. Takayuki Sano, who worked as animation director on 'Attack on Titan Final Season', 'Ninja Kamui', and 'BULLET/BULLET', serves as director.
'Death Stranding Isolations' will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2027, with the exact release date and further details to be announced later through Kojima Productions' official website and YouTube channel.
