Following its official release on the 6th, the remake of 'Gothic'—the fantasy open world RPG originally launched in 2001—was featured at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.
Gothic Remake is a modern reimagining of the 2001 original, which inspired the genre with its innovative systems, developed by Alkimia Interactive under THQ. After its initial reveal at the 2022 THQ Nordic Showcase, news had been sparse, but the game has re-emerged this year at the Future Games Show Spring and Summer showcases to announce its release date and launch.
The official launch trailer highlights the Khorinis mines in the Kingdom of Myrtana, the game's primary setting, rendered with updated, modern graphics. The immersion is further heightened by a vivid depiction of the awakening of 'The Sleeper,' a mysterious ancient entity, accompanied by a priest's speech. The trailer also showcases the dark, gritty world of the original through realistic 3D graphics, while providing a glimpse into the modernized combat system—featuring melee weapons, bows, and magic skills—as well as the lifelike, reactive NPCs.
While maintaining the unique atmosphere and freedom of exploration that defined the original, this remake significantly expands the quest lines and adds greater responsiveness and dynamism to the NPCs. Players can align with one of three factions, with their choice fundamentally altering their abilities, playstyle, and the direction of their adventure.
Gothic Remake was released on the 6th for PC, PS, and Xbox. Further information is available on the respective store pages and the official website.
