'Permafrost,' a survival sandbox game set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2035, will launch into Early Access on August 21.

During the 'Green Game Showcase,' a partner event of the Summer Game Fest, SpaceRocket Games announced the Early Access date for 'Permafrost,' roughly 14 months after the game was first unveiled in May 2024. An open test will also be held prior to the Early Access launch.

The game is set in 2035, following a cataclysmic event that shattered the moon. As a result of this disaster, Earth has transformed into a wasteland covered in permafrost, with communication and social systems having collapsed. Players must explore this frozen open world, gather resources, and build bases to survive.

In 'Permafrost,' weather is not merely a background element but a threat that directly impacts survival. Understanding the environment—such as reading the signs of an incoming blizzard and securing shelter—is a prerequisite for survival.

Key gameplay mechanics include managing physical conditions to avoid hypothermia, crafting structures and equipment based on blueprints, and securing food through farming. In combat against hostile humans and wildlife, players can utilize terrain for stealth and evasion. Rescued dogs can also play a role by detecting dangers in advance or assisting with item transport.

Exploration areas include diverse environments such as snowy plains, snow-covered forests, and ruined city centers, with both on-foot and vehicular travel supported. The game supports both single-player and online co-op for up to four players. Players can sign up for the upcoming test via the Steam page, with the Early Access version becoming available on August 21.
