Mob Entertainment has released a new update for Escape From Playtime, its co-op survival horror spin-off set in the Poppy Playtime universe. It adds public lobbies, more lore and balance changes for smaller groups. The studio also shared an early roadmap of what comes next.
Escape From Playtime launched in Steam Early Access on October 21st. The update, called Patch 2: The Lobby Doors Are Open, arrives a week later; Mob Entertainment posted the full patch notes on Steam.
Public lobbies and more lore
Public lobbies were the game's most requested addition, according to the patch notes. Until now, players joined a group through a Steam invite or a lobby code. Players can now host and join lobbies from the main menu, with groups of two to eight players. A Quickmatch option puts players into a random group that is looking for members, and lobby hosts can kick problem players.
For lore hunters, 12 new notes are hidden around the Playtime Co. factory. Posters with ‘strange words scrawled onto them’ have also appeared on the walls, in the patch notes' words. VHS tapes found in the facility now reveal lore when brought back to the Perm-A-Lounge.
Shift timing has changed too. Each shift's quota now scales with the number of players in the lobby, which should help smaller groups finish full shifts. Health and flashlight battery are restored after each shift. A new Lost & Found Box returns items dropped down a hole in the cave.
What comes next
The roadmap lists more lore and an updated tutorial with a guided shift for beginners. Also planned are new items, cosmetics and emotes, more puzzles and challenges and further balancing for group sizes and timing. Gameplay and enemies will be reworked as well. A roadmap image shared with the release adds a Candy Cat update within the game's first month, with new areas planned later. No dates were given.
Escape From Playtime costs $9.99 on Steam and is 10% off during the Steam Scream V Fest. Players who already have Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 can take an extra 10% off.
In Escape From Playtime, one to eight players control the Smiling Critters inside the abandoned Playtime Co. factory, gathering supplies for a mysterious Voice that promises them freedom and a home. Levels are procedurally generated and change with every run. Proximity voice chat means a loud plan can reach the toys hunting the team.
