The indie life simulation game 'Paralives' will launch in Steam Early Access on May 25. This release comes nearly seven years after its initial reveal in June 2019, marking the moment a title long anticipated by the Western life-sim fandom as a potential alternative finally reaches players' hands.
The game began as a one-person project by indie developer Alex Massé in 2019. Since then, the team has expanded through community funding via Patreon, growing into the 14-person Paralives Studio as of June 2025. Over the nearly seven-year development period, the team has consistently shared footage of the 'Paramaker' character creator, build mode, and live mode, amassing approximately 380k subscribers on their official YouTube channel. The game surpassed 1 million Steam wishlist registrations ahead of its early access launch.

A key feature of the game is its high degree of customization. It employs a grid-free building system that allows for curved walls and split-level homes, while furniture like sofas can be freely adjusted in length and color. Characters, known as 'Parafolks,' can be customized in detail, including their height, facial features, body type, clothing, and personality traits.
According to the developers, the game features an open-world town complete with shops, parks, restaurants, and museums, and includes traditional life-sim elements such as careers, romance, family building, and generational progression. It also supports an in-game modding interface and Steam Workshop integration. Unlike the realistic aesthetic of KRAFTON's life sim 'inZOI,' the game opts for a stylized, cartoon-inspired art direction.

Paralives was originally scheduled to enter early access on December 8, 2025, but the developers delayed the release in November 2025. At the time, the studio explained that while players were enjoying the freedom of the Paramaker and build mode, there were still significant bugs affecting live mode and a lack of activities to do in town, necessitating further polish. After about five months of additional development, the release date has been finalized for May 25.
The game also differentiates itself in its business model. Paralives Studio has officially stated that it will not introduce paid DLC and will provide all additional content through free updates. During the early access period, content such as weather and seasons, pets (dogs, cats, and horses), vehicles and bicycles, swimming pools, gardening, family trees, and NPC story progression will be added sequentially.
'Paralives' will launch in Steam Early Access on May 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM ET (11:00 PM KST). The price is expected to increase upon the game's full release.
