KT VicLa: "Chovy doesn’t make mistakes. I don’t think I’m on his level; I’d say I’m right underneath him."

On day 42 of the 2022 LCK Summer split, kt Rolster defeated DRX 2-0 in the second match of the day. KT took a pre-20 minute victory in both game 1 and 2, displaying a clear difference in skill over DRX.

Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang, the mid laner for KT, joined the press room at LoL Park for a post-match interview.

Thoughts on the 2-0 victory over DRX?

I thought about how we can definitely beat them 2-0 tonight, but the victory was much cleaner than anticipated, so it’s almost a bit baffling. I had faith that we could play out teamfights much better than our opponents tonight.

Looking at KT’s recent performances, it looks like the team really knows how to pick up their tempo in the early game.

I think that we’re able to snowball games quickly due to having great team synergy. Our laning phases do not fall behind the top teams, while we definitely have an edge over the weaker teams.

In the current patch, teams tend to take Sivir and Zeri. Why did KT decide to ban both of the champions on the red side?

Deft is good at champions like Sivir, so if we ban her out and make the bot lane matchup Aphelios vs Jinx, we felt our bot lane would win. We had faith in Aiming’s carry potential, so we wanted to push for it.

Some consider your Ahri, alongside Chovy’s Ahri, to be top 2 in the LCK.

I make a lot of these small mistakes. Chovy doesn’t make mistakes. I don’t think I’m on Chovy’s level; I’d say I’m right underneath him.

You’ve been nominated for Rookie of the Year in the LCK Awards. You only get to be a rookie once in your career, so what are your thoughts on the nomination?

Honestly, I really want to get it. There’s still a lot more to show, so I want to finish the season well and receive it.

There’s only one more regular split match before the playoffs. Are you nervous at all about playing your first Bo5s?

I think I’d feel more comfortable in the playoffs, since I have three chances to win. I usually don’t get nervous. Nerves did affect me when I debuted, but once I got comfortable, I never got nervous.

KT’s final opponent of the regular split is against Gen.G.

They’re an incredible team this split. If we prepare well, we’ll not only put up a fight, I believe there’s a chance to win as well.
