The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), organizer of the Tokyo Game Show, held the Japan Game Awards Future Division ceremony today (September 20) in Hall 1 of Makuhari Messe. ■ Square Enix - Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Unite
The first award recipient of the Future Division ceremony went to Square Enix's Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Unite. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Unite is a full remake of Romancing SaGa 3, which originally debuted on the Super Famicom in 1995. It showcases all-new HD graphics, fully voiced cutscenes, and a newly arranged soundtrack. Meanwhile, it earned the fans' choice by harmonizing modern visuals with the classic feel of the original, faithfully preserving key mechanics like formations and glimmers.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Unite is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, for PC, PS5, XSX|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

■ Bandai Namco Entertainment - Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve
Ace Combat 8 marks the franchise's first main numbered sequel in roughly seven years and serves as its 30th-anniversary title, bringing the series' signature arcade-style aerial combat and dramatic military storytelling to an even larger scale. In addition to featuring the largest battlefields in series history and improved weather visual effects, online multiplayer supports lobbies for up to 100 simultaneous players across various modes, including the PvE mode Co-op Assault, the PvPvE mode Co-op Warfare, and 'Emergency Sortie,' where players challenge giant superweapons.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will launch on October 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

■ Good Smile Company - Magical Girl Taboo Village
'Magical Girl Taboo Village' is a mystery suspense visual novel set in an isolated, secretive village bound by bizarre customs and curses. Protagonist Sakuya Watanuki, who visited the village with a friend for a specific purpose, awakens inside an ancient shrine and witnesses the hanged corpse of a girl with flowers sprouting across her entire body. The other surviving girls in the shrine find themselves in a similar eerie state, with flowers blooming in one of their eyes, forcing them to confront a cruel destiny where they must vote on a sacrifice to offer to god every night.
Developer Acacia, creator of the previous title 'Magical Girl Witch Trials', joined hands with scenario writer Makoto Kedouin of the acclaimed horror series 'Corpse Party' to elevate the narrative depth. The game left a strong impression with its dense text and visuals during its TGS 2026 playable demo, earning its spot in the Japan Game Awards Future Division. Magical Girl Taboo Village is slated for release within 2026.

■ Atlus - Persona 4 Revival
'Persona 4 Revival' is a full remake based on the critically acclaimed 'Persona 4 Golden,' modernizing the entire user experience including graphics, UI, combat, and cutscenes. In particular, Inaba City—the game's primary setting that was originally presented with fixed camera angles and restricted backgrounds—has been rebuilt into a full 3D environment with free camera movement, generating immense buzz among fans. Ever since its initial reveal, veteran fans have celebrated the inclusion of Kushala Daora, an Elder Dragon representing the series, alongside Lao-Shan Lung, a colossal monster making its return to the mainline games. The expansion promises an array of new content, including a story continuation, new environments, monsters, hunter actions, and a new Quest Rank: Master Rank.
