Following Marvel's Spider-Man, Insomniac Games' next Marvel superhero action title, 'Marvel's Wolverine,' is set to launch on September 15.
Insomniac Creative Director Marcus Smith kicked off the event. Logan appeared wearing a modern reinterpretation of his classic yellow Wolverine suit. With various X-Men characters teased, the trailer also features Jean Grey, who joins the fray to assist Wolverine.
The trailer provides an in-depth look at actual gameplay, showcasing Wolverine's signature combat style as he stabs, slashes, and tears through enemies with his adamantium claws. The dynamic camera work makes the action feel even more visceral. While the approach to combat—executing intense moves with simple button inputs—is similar to Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man, the shift from hand-to-hand combat to claw-based fighting results in a much bloodier experience.
Jean Grey, who joins the battle midway, is more than just a cinematic character; she acts as a combat partner. Using her telekinetic powers, she pushes and lifts enemies, creating openings for Wolverine to strike. Players can also utilize a rage gauge to unleash powerful attacks. The trailer also highlights 'Critical Strikes,' a type of finisher that can be performed in tandem with Jean Grey.
The footage also includes a high-speed motorcycle chase and a showdown with a powerful foe. Logan builds his rage gauge by attacking, parrying, and performing eliminations, which can then be used to trigger heavy attacks or health regeneration. Logan's signature healing factor is also on display, with his health slowly recovering during gameplay and various cutscenes emphasizing this ability.
As many X-Men stories focus on the conflict between mutants and humans, this title will center on the struggle against Bolivar Trask, a human supremacist who hunts mutants. Beyond Jean Grey, the trailer also confirms the appearances of Mystique and Sabretooth.
Alongside the trailer reveal, SIE has officially opened pre-orders for the game. The title launches on September 15.
