DAMWON Gaming seemed absolutely unstoppable. With the experience that they gained from the 2019 LoL World Championships, they pursued perfection to achieve excellence. On the 5th (KST), DWG were able to beat DRX in the 2020 LCK Summer finals and became the LCK champions. DWG were able to carry over their dominance during their regular split, and were able to capture their first domestic championship.

DWG had a big draft win over DRX in game 1. After banning Ashe and taking Caitlyn, DRX picked Jhin, and DWG immediately answered with Ornn. DWG was able to buy enough time for jungle Volibear and top Ornn to scale, and started to fight back in a contest for the second dragon. As the fights went on, Jhin was not able to deal enough damage to kill Volibear and Ornn, and with DWG eventually taking Ocean soul, they were able to destroy DRX’s Nexus and lead the series 1-0.

In game 2, DRX was able to win a skirmish in their jungle to take the lead. However, things quickly turned around when DRX lost out in top and bottom lanes. DWG then went on to push their lead really hard, and with Baron going over to DWG’s side, they were able to get a 10K global gold lead. Despite Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon trying his best in bringing his team back from behind, the difference was too big for his Jayce to turn things around.

In game 3, DRX drafted Irelia/Lillia, a mid-jungle combination that they’ve seemingly practiced for the series, but they proved to be ineffective against DRX. DWG’s top jungle duo, Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu successfully dove the enemy Shen to gain priority in the top lane. Afterwards, Heo “ShowMaker” Su’s Akali was able to get a quadra kill on Akali to really turn the tides over for DWG. After DWG was able to successfully chase out DRX, who yelled hail mary on Baron, they were able to destroy DRX’s nexus to become the 2020 LCK Summer champions.

This Finals victory for DWG also meant that they were going to the 2020 LoL World Championships as LCK’s 1st seed. With DRX following them as the 2nd seed, LCK’s 3rd seed will be determined by the LCK Regional qualifier, starting on the 7th (KST).
