To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 'Ghost Recon' series, Ubisoft has released a major free update for its open world tactical shooter, 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands''titled 'Last Rites''on the 6th (local time). This is the first major content update in about seven years since 2019, featuring new story missions, next-generation console support, various quality-of-life improvements, and the return of the 'Predator'.
The centerpiece of this update is the new story mission, 'Last Rites.' Players will head into the swamps and jungles of Bolivia to face a new enemy, 'La Llorona,' who leads the fanatical group 'Los Penitentes''who leads the fanatical group 'Los Penitentes' through the swamps and jungles of Bolivia. This faction, driven by religious fanaticism rather than the traditional cartel motives, emerges as a new threat, bringing with them new regions, enemies, and missions.
Technical improvements have also been implemented. Native versions are now available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, supporting up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS. On PS5, players can utilize DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features, and existing owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions can upgrade to the next-gen version for free.
Alongside these, various quality-of-life (QoL) updates have been applied. A large number of new customization items have been added, and overall improvements have been made to weapon and equipment selection, as well as general user convenience features. Some content that was previously available for a limited time has also been restored, creating an environment that both existing and new players can enjoy.
Released in 2017, 'Ghost Recon Wildlands' is an open world tactical shooter set in Bolivia that depicts the operations of the Ghost unit against the 'Santa Blanca' drug cartel. Praised as one of the series' flagship titles for its four-player co-op and high-freedom stealth and combat mechanics, this update is provided as free content to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 'Ghost Recon' series.
