2K and FIRAXIS GAMES announced on the 20th the official release of 'Trials of Time,' a major free update for the strategy simulation game 'Sid Meier's Civilization VII.' This update represents the largest set of changes since the game's launch and was refined through over a year of user feedback and iterative playtesting.
The core of this update is the 'Time Tested Civs' feature, which breaks the previous requirement to change civilizations during era transitions, allowing players to play through an entire campaign as a single civilization.
Additionally, a new 'Syncretism' mechanism has been added, enabling players to adopt unique units or infrastructure from other civilizations currently in the Apex Age to create entirely new builds. The 'Affirmation' feature also allows players to further strengthen their civilization's unique traits.
The victory system has been completely overhauled; it is no longer determined solely by late-game results but now comprehensively evaluates a player's strategic dominance throughout the entire campaign.
Alongside these changes, the existing 'Legacy Paths' have been fully replaced by the new 'Triumphs' system. Players can enjoy a unique experience in every game through various optional challenges linked to six attributes: Military, Cultural, Scientific, Economic, Diplomatic, and Expansionist. Other additions include a fractal continent map, a new commerce screen, a Council of Advisors, new narrative events, improvements to the specialist and biome systems, new audio and music, and numerous balance adjustments.
Existing owners of Civilization VII can access the new free leader, 'Alexander the Great,' at no additional cost. Civilization VII is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games). FIRAXIS GAMES is a studio under 2K, and 2K is a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software. The latest information on the game can be found on the official website and social media channels.
