Following the story trailer released a day earlier, a gameplay video for 'D.MON,' the new hero in Overwatch, was unveiled on the official Overwatch YouTube channel at 1:00 AM on Saturday, August 8.
'D.MON' is a hero who pilots a dedicated mech named 'Beast' and uses a one-handed sword for melee attacks. Like Reinhardt or Brigitte, she can deploy a shield. However, her shield is smaller than Reinhardt's and curves to cover her front.
She also possesses a ranged attack, which fires a cannon mounted on her left wrist. Since D.MON also uses her left arm to deploy her shield, it is assumed that she cannot shield and fire simultaneously.
Her movement ability, like that of fellow mech unit hero D.Va, features rapid movement via thrusters, though the video shows her moving only on the ground without flight capabilities. She can rotate her shield in any direction while boosting, and she appears to have a charge ability that allows her to dash a short distance and thrust her sword at enemies at the end of the boost.
Her ultimate skill is not a self-destruct mechanism like D.Va's, but rather a technique that unleashes a flurry of slashes across a wide area in front of her. While not explicitly confirmed in the video, the lingering effect on hit heroes suggests that it may apply a debuff in addition to dealing damage.
However, the mechanism where the mech is destroyed and must be re-summoned remains. If the mech is destroyed, D.MON enters the battlefield on foot, wielding a large-caliber machine gun in both hands—which looks as if it were ripped from a mount—rather than using D.Va's light gun. When the gauge is filled and the mech is re-summoned, an animation shows her dealing damage to nearby enemies.
'D.MON' is scheduled to be released in Season 4, 'Heroes of Busan,' which launches on August 12.
