During the Xbox Game Showcase 2026, held in the early hours of the 8th (KST), Ninja Theory unveiled its new title, 'Senua', as a world premiere.
'Senua' is a new entry in the Hellblade series, featuring the same protagonist, Senua. However, unlike its predecessors, this title is designed as a full-fledged action-adventure game.
Although 'Senua' follows the events of the first and second Hellblade games, it does not carry a formal numbering. Ninja Theory explained that they chose the title 'Senua' because this installment takes a different direction from the previous games. The most significant changes are the shift from the 1-on-1 cinematic combat of the earlier titles to battles against multiple enemies, along with an increased emphasis on exploration and puzzles.
The story is set in Purgatory, the boundary between life and death. The Celtic warrior Senua attempts to reach the afterlife from a version of Purgatory modeled after her homeland to reunite with those she has lost. The map consists of interconnected locations where players engage in combat using dual blades, solve puzzles, and explore, including vertical traversal. Enemies include monsters born from myth and horror, as well as massive bosses.
Like its predecessors, 'Senua' is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, and Ninja Theory stated that the trailer released today features footage from an early build. The game is scheduled for release in 2027. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam and Xbox on PC), cloud, and PS5, and will be included in Game Pass at launch.
