Rick Fox tells TMZ he would stay with Echo Fox if organization cuts ties with racist investor

Rick Fox told TMZ that he would be willing to remain in his current position with his esports organization Echo Fox if a certain investor would leave the company.According to a Dexerto report by Richard Lewis on Thursday, April 25, 2019, the investor in question had previously made racist remarks to describe Fox and former CEO Echo Fox CEO Jace Hall. This resulted in Fox informing the organization of his intention to leave via email.

Rick Fox, who founded Echo Fox towards the end of 2015, had apparently had enough with multiple incidents of racism during internal business discussions. Fox's email made his intentions clear:

"The recent outrageous and abhorrent display of pure racism made by a significant Echo Fox shareholder as well as threats to my family have made it impossible for me to continue to remain associated with the company."

On the morning of Friday, May 3, 2019, TMZ posted a short video interview with Fox, asking Fox if he'd consider staying with the organization:

"I have amazing partners; investors; sponsors that don't stand for this type of behavior; I have the best players in the world - whether it's with my current partners or new partners, of course. This has been my life and my passion. I'm not looking to go anywhere, but I will not stay in business with a racist. I just won't."

Since entering the esports scene, Fox has been a figure of immense popularity with players and fans alike. Echo Fox has responded with a statement via The Esports Observer claiming to look towards disassociating with the shareholder in question.  However, Fox knows better than anyone that in business, things aren't that simple:

"Something that a lot of people will learn as they maybe get into business in their lives is that he has rights as well. The unfortunate thing is being a racist in America, or being a racist in general, is not illegal. He has his own economic interests and his own rights, and no one's going to trample on his rights, but I have my rights as well...I'm about standing against these type of things, and so I can only do what I believe in."

No further statements from Fox, Echo Fox, or any associated partners have been made at the time of this report. We will continue updating the story as new information becomes available.
