Fortnite Announced as High School Esports League’s(HSEL) Next Title

High School Esports League (HSEL), the leading league for high school esports, today announced Fortnite as the league’s next title for the Summer Open season. The grand prize winner and champion of the Summer League’s Fortnite tournament will receive two hours of playtime against Svennoss, the top Fortnite player in the USA, thanks to NRG eSports.

“With the explosive rise of Fortnite, and colleges starting to offer more and more scholarships, making it our Summer Open title was a no-brainer” said Mason Mullenioux, CEO of High School Esports League. “So, being the first to offer Fortnite, plus working with NRG eSports and Svennoss, really takes things to the next level. We’re thrilled to continue to create more opportunity and value for the students.”

In addition to two hours of playtime with Svennoss, the grand champion will receive a Respawn Gaming Chair and HSEL swag. Players do not need to be affiliated with their high school to participate in the Summer Open with HSEL’s free agent format and their individual student verification process. All students need is their student ID and an active subscription to compete.

“We’re thrilled to team up with High School Esports League for the first-ever Fortnite tournament at the high school level” said Brett Lautenbach, CEO of NRG eSports. “These players are the future of professional eSports and any chance we have to work with them to grow the sport is a top priority”

Qualifiers for the Summer Open are now live and end June 17th, with the regular season starting June 18th. Fortnite will be available in the HSEL on iOS, PC, Xbox and PS4 all being separated into their own platform-specific tournament. All student looking to compete must be verified by June 15th.
