Raw Power Games, the developer of medieval sandbox game Chronicles: Medieval, has lost its funding and said the studio is "at real risk of closing" just as the game nears Early Access.
The studio shared the news in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on October 30th, posted on both the game's account and its own. "Due to circumstances outside our control, the necessary funding behind Raw Power Games is no longer in place," the statement read. "Without it we can't keep building Chronicles: Medieval." It did not say where the money had come from or why it had been withdrawn.
'Not going down without a fight'
The team wrote that the timing made the news harder to take. "What makes it hurt is how close we are. Early Access is within reach," the statement read, adding that staff "in Copenhagen and remote" had put in work "often far beyond what anyone asked of them." It did not say how many people work at the studio or whether any jobs have been cut so far.
Raw Power Games said "real talks" are under way with "everyone who might help us find a way forward," but stopped short of any promise. "We can't promise you a happy ending," it said, while pledging to keep fans updated whether the news is good or bad. The studio asked players to keep the game on their wishlists and keep talking about it, saying this "matters more right now than you might think."
What is Chronicles: Medieval?
According to its Steam page, Chronicles: Medieval is a sandbox role-playing game (RPG) set in Europe during the Hundred Years' War. Players command troops in real time while fighting alongside them in battles involving hundreds of soldiers, including longbowmen, men-at-arms, crossbowmen and cavalry. The page lists a 2027 release and says the game will launch in Early Access, with new content, features and modding support planned after that.
The studio is not the first this month to go public about lost funding. Apex Legends veterans' studio Gravity Well laid off most of its staff in early October after it failed to secure new investment.
