Escape from Tarkov game director Nikita Buyanov has premiered the first gameplay trailer for Fragmentary Order, his hardcore sci-fi tactical shooter set across the Solar System in the year 2251.

The gameplay reveal ran for 14 minutes of in-engine footage and gave the first proper look at the game, which was first revealed under its official name earlier this year. After the broadcast, Buyanov opened Prime Batch, the game's paid early access program for closed testing, with prices starting at $44.99.

"We're not building a match you play. We're building a world you live in, for years. Tarkov is still worth playing after ten years, and I want Fragmentary Order to be just as playable and engaging a decade from now," Buyanov said in the official announcement.

War run by clones

In Fragmentary Order, war has been outsourced. Players fight through RepEnts, remotely operated clones sent into a wide theatre of operations, and losing one is treated as a cost rather than the end. According to the announcement, death is "a business expense", risk is "an investment" and combat is "labor".

The studio described its approach as hard sci-fi that tries to predict the future. Large maps come with changing environmental conditions, vehicles, drones and smart systems, and squads can hold up to four players.

How Prime Batch works

Prime Batch runs through the pre-public development phase and cannot be bought afterwards. The Candidate tier ($44.99) includes alpha sessions, major technical playtests, a 'Candidate' rank designation and an in-game package yet to be announced. The Founder tier ($79.99) adds a 'Founder' package, earlier experimental builds, early roadmap visibility and a closed community with direct access to the developers, according to the Prime Batch page.

A player's rank on cor3.gg, the game's ARG-style companion experience, brings the price down, and those discounts stack with vouchers earned during the cor3.gg event. The first closed alpha wave, held under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), is planned for later this year, and another FragOTV podcast will share more on the alpha launch.

Fragmentary Order is the debut title of Rant Gaming, an independent studio led by Buyanov with a team of 150 that plans to grow to at least 500 developers. It is the first major title published exclusively on COR3, a direct-to-consumer PC publisher and platform.
