Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey by three months, moving the PlayStation 5 action game from February 16th 2027 to May 20th 2027.

The studio announced the new date on X (formerly Twitter) in a short statement. "We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential," Santa Monica Studio wrote, adding that it would "be back to share more updates soon."

The statement did not go into detail about why the extra time was needed. It said the team did not "take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans," and thanked players for their patience.

What is God of War Laufey?

God of War Laufey was revealed at Sony's State of Play showcase in June. PlayStation has described it as the next mainline chapter in Santa Monica Studio's series, and it is the first main entry led by someone other than Kratos. Players control Faye, also known as Laufey, who is played by Deborah Ann Woll.

The game is set in the Everywhen, which PlayStation calls the afterlife of the gods. According to Sony, its combat mixes the modern God of War system with ideas from the older Greek-era games, with Faye using a sword, magic and a new weapon called the Serpent Bow.

Pre-orders opened on September 29th, and a Collector Box priced at $149.99 / €149.99 / £129.99 went up for pre-order on October 13th. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony said the Collector Box would be available on the original February 16th launch date. Santa Monica Studio has not yet said whether pre-orders or the Collector Box shipping date will change.
