Witchbrook, a magic school life simulation game long in development, will officially launch on January 28, 2027. Developer Chucklefish released a new trailer alongside the release date announcement. Additionally, a simultaneous launch for the PS5 version was newly confirmed through this announcement.
Witchbrook is a life simulation RPG set in a magic school. Players become freshmen at Witchbrook College, located in the seaside town of Mossport, learning magic, interacting with local residents, and crafting their own daily routines.
In addition to attending magic classes and learning new spells, players can use their magical abilities to help local residents or run a business. Outside of class, they can enjoy various activities such as foraging, crafting, gardening, and seasonal events, while building friendships or developing romantic relationships with companions. Online co-op play for up to four players is also supported.
The newly revealed release date announcement trailer is an extended version of the video showcased during the Nintendo stream, featuring a variety of previously unrevealed content. Viewers can glimpse elements such as Doctor Croak, the ghost principal of Witchbrook College, as well as new spellcasting mechanics, studying and knowledge systems, potion brewing, and tarot. Small magical creatures wandering around strange stone structures and portions of individual stories for fellow witches were also revealed.
A new character, Kiara Chandra, was also introduced. Kiara is a gothic witch and a post-grad student with a sardonic yet intelligent personality. Described as possessing a natural talent for the arcane arts, she takes a pragmatic approach to supernatural phenomena.
The digital version of the game supports a total of 10 languages, including Korean. Physical standard and collector's editions are also in development, but will be released separately after the digital launch. The development team stated that they aim to offer special products for collectors without affecting the primary release schedule through physical production. Specific release platforms and details on the special editions will be announced at a later date.
Meanwhile, Witchbrook was originally aimed for a winter 2025 release, but its launch was previously delayed to 2026 to enhance the game's overall quality. The development team expressed their gratitude to everyone who has followed the game's development over the past few years.
Witchbrook is scheduled to launch on January 28, 2027, for PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, and PS5.
