The Korea Arcade Game Industry Association announced on the 14th that it is launching a self-regulation campaign alongside member youth arcade centers nationwide to foster a healthy gaming culture and establish proper business practices.
The association aims to create safe leisure spaces for youth and families while enforcing compliance under the Game Industry Promotion Act to strengthen youth protection and elevate public trust in the industry.
The campaign outlines six key operational guidelines: ▲ Providing genuine prizes valued within a retail price of 10,000 won solely through built-in dispensing units inside game machines ▲ Operating between 9:00 AM and midnight while adhering to permitted youth access hours from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM ▲ Prohibiting the operation of unrated games or illegally modified games that deviate from their rating classification ▲ Prohibiting cash exchanges for prizes, brokering cash exchanges, repurchases, item trade-ins, and misleading prize displays ▲ Displaying required information on game machines, including developer/publisher business names and content ratings ▲ Posting business registration certificates and mandatory notice signs.
Mandatory notice signs must measure at least 50 cm wide by 50 cm high and include information such as operating hours, youth access hours, prohibitions against pornography, gambling, and speculative behavior, as well as prize handling rules.
Dae-joo Yoon, Chairman of the Korea Arcade Game Industry Association, said, "Through continuous self-policing and improvements to the operating environment of youth game centers, we will thoroughly block illegal and speculative elements." He added, "We will build a healthy family leisure space that anyone can visit with confidence and lead the development of the arcade game industry."
