Nexon Games announced on September 14 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Tourism Organization to support the development of its Joseon fantasy action-adventure game 'Woochi the Wayfarer'.
The two entities signed the agreement on September 11. Under the deal, the Korea Tourism Organization will provide Nexon Games with approximately 70,000 images and around 1,000 video assets showcasing landscapes and cultural heritage from across South Korea. The materials include high-resolution images, drone footage, and content capturing historical sites and Korea's unique geography from multiple angles—resources that are difficult for private companies to secure independently.
Nexon Games will utilize the provided assets alongside data collected from its own location scouting to create in-game backgrounds and graphic resources. The company plans to re-interpret real Korean landscapes through gaming imagination to realize the unique Joseon fantasy world of 'Woochi the Wayfarer'.
'Woochi the Wayfarer' is a AAA single-player action-adventure game currently under development by Nexon Games' LoreVault Studio. Featuring an original story inspired by the classic Korean novel 'The Tale of Jeon Woo-chi', the game follows the adventures of the Dosa (Taoist mage) Jeon Woo-chi as he casts spells and battles monsters.
Kang In-soo, Head of the Corporate Management Division at Nexon Games, said, "This collaboration is deeply meaningful as it allows us to utilize the rich data held by the Korea Tourism Organization in developing 'Woochi the Wayfarer'. Through our partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization, we will further elevate the quality and detail of the game's Korean setting."
Kim Young-mi, Head of the Tourism AI Innovation Division at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "Games are an influential medium that can naturally convey Korea's charm to players worldwide. We hope the beautiful Korean landscapes brought to life in 'Woochi the Wayfarer' will naturally encourage players to visit South Korea."
Moving forward, Nexon Games and the Korea Tourism Organization plan to explore joint initiatives, such as tourism promotion and marketing, aligned with the game's launch and business execution phases, while continuing to discuss collaborative ways to showcase Korean landscapes domestically and internationally.
