Kakao Games announced on the 1st that it has finalized the official title of the new MMORPG, currently under development by Supercat under the project name 'Project OQ', as 'Dokkaebi World' and unveiled its official brand identity.
Dokkaebi World is a 2.5D MMORPG that stands out for its unique, retro-pixel art style. Built on the Unity engine, the game incorporates Supercat's proprietary graphics technology to deliver high-quality 2.5D visuals, with intuitive gameplay designed to be accessible to everyone. In particular, the game aims to provide a differentiated adventure experience by naturally weaving traditional Korean folklore and various cultural motifs, such as the 'Dokkaebi' (goblins), into its original world-building and atmosphere.
The game also features a system that boldly breaks down traditional class boundaries. Through a highly flexible skill deck-building system, users can customize their combat style to suit their individual preferences. Furthermore, by balancing cooperative, clan-based monster hunting content with optional large-scale PvP, the game creates an environment that satisfies both casual players and core gamers alike.
Dokkaebi World is slated for an official release in the third quarter of this year, with pre-registration scheduled to begin in July. Kakao Games plans to leverage its extensive publishing and live-service expertise to ensure stable operations and will work closely with Supercat to deliver a high-quality gaming experience to users.
Founded in 2016, Supercat is a promising game developer known for successful titles across various genres, including its flagship game 'Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds', as well as 'Grow Stone Online' and 'Granny's House'. The company also co-founded and operates the metaverse platform ZEP in partnership with Naver Z. Kakao Games plans to release further details regarding the game's content and service schedule in the coming weeks.
