As the global semiconductor supply shortage continues and prices of various consoles, including PC hardware, are rising one after another, Valve has raised the price of its portable PC gaming console, the Steam Deck OLED, by up to $300.

Valve announced the restocking of the Steam Deck OLED model and details of the price adjustment today (the 28th) through its Steam Hardware News Hub. The price of the 512GB model increased from the existing $549 (approx. 820,000 KRW) to $789 (approx. 1,180,000 KRW), and the 1TB model increased by about 40% from $649 (approx. 970,000 KRW) to $949 (approx. 1,420,000 KRW). The price increase applied not only in the U.S. but also in Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, Poland, and others. Looking at the extent of the price increases by region, Poland stands out with a minimum rise of 25%, while Canada sees an increase of up to 60%. Announcing this news, Valve explained, "There are no changes to the Steam Deck itself; prices have been newly adjusted to reflect current component costs and logistics conditions across the global industry." Meanwhile, as Valve has significantly raised Steam Deck OLED prices, concerns are spreading within the community that additional increases may occur in regions where prices have not yet been adjusted. Valve had already raised Steam Deck OLED prices once in Asia, including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, last February. At the time, the price of the 512GB model was adjusted from the existing 839,000 won to 898,000 won, and the 1TB model from 989,000 won to 1,048,000 won. If an increase rate of approximately 40%, the same level as in the U.S., is applied, there is a possibility that domestic prices will also rise significantly. Based on simple calculations, the 512GB model would rise to approximately 1,257,000 won, and the 1TB model to approximately 1,467,200 won. Compared to current prices, this amounts to an increase of at least 350,000 won to a maximum of about 400,000 won depending on the model.
