Ahead of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship, the four League Pro League representatives had a photo shoot with Harper's Bazaar. The League of Legends stars were dressed up in traditional high fashion garments, leaving their usual polyester jerseys and joggers behind.
Done entirely in black and white, the shoot offers a much different look to the young stars. The shoot juxtaposes their traditional image - vibrant colors, loud noises, and hyperactive gameplay - with soft, muted tones and a sense of serenity not usually found in the esports scene. Each player has their own individual photo, either shot from below or behind a glass wall, along with two team photos.
The Bazaar China Weibo account posted the photoshoot along with a caption that roughly translates to: "He took off his armor and put on a strong suit, and what remained unchanged was a heart that never moved forward. On the field, they are comrades in arms who can deliver their backs, and off the field, they are close partners. This is a team game, the glory of the alliance. Warriors of the LPL, face the flower of dawn that blooms during the killing and move forward bravely!"
Three of the teams, Top Esports, JD Gaming, and Suning Gaming, will slot straight into the Group Stage at Worlds, where they will compete in a double round-robin to advance to the Knockout Stage. One team, LGD, will first compete in a Play-In stage, where they will face off other lower-seeded teams for a chance to enter the Group Stage and main event. The games are all played in Shanghai in a bubble setting to prioritize the safety of players and fans. The Worlds Finals will take place in the brand new Pudong Football Stadium, and will be the first event held in the arena.
Check below for some of the pictures in the photoshoot, and check the official Harper's Bazaar China Weibo account for the rest.
