KWANGDONG FREECS (KDF) lost 1:2 to BNK FEARX in the second round of the 2026 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) regular season, held at LoL PARK in Jongno on the 27th. After a comeback loss in the first set, they managed to strike back in the second set thanks to strong performances from their top-side players, but ultimately fell to the opponent's carry potential in the final set. With this defeat, their chances of qualifying for the 'Road to MSI' have vanished.
In the post-match press conference, Head Coach Cho Jae-eup summarized the day's performance, stating, "It is disappointing that we couldn't secure the win, but there were many things we did well." He added, "I believe that even if we had made it to the 'Road to MSI' after beating BNK FEARX, we wouldn't have shown a strong performance. We will focus on doing well in the Rise Group instead."
Despite the loss, 'Ucal' Son Woo-hyeon, who showed strong form throughout the series, shared his honest thoughts: "I came into this match thinking we could win, so it's a shame we let Game 1 slip away. I don't feel too bad about Game 3, as I think both teams played well."
When asked about his improved form compared to the start of the season, 'Ucal' replied, "It's not that I suddenly got better, but rather that our head coach has helped me a lot this year, which has boosted my confidence. That has influenced my performance and has been showing in practice. I'm happy that it's now translating to our official matches as well."
One of the issues cited for KDF DRX is the critical mistakes made in the bottom lane. Addressing this, Coach Cho explained, "In LoL, there are picks that need to carry and picks that need to support. The carries need to perform, and the support players need to hold their own and fulfill their roles during teamfights. I think we are currently in the lower ranks because we aren't quite there yet. Solving that will be the key."
Finally, Head Coach Cho concluded the interview by saying, "I know our fans supported us and kept their hopes up until the very end. I am sorry and disappointed that we couldn't win. I am determined to make sure we perform well in all our remaining matches this year, including the final game of the second round, to give our fans something to smile about."
