Netmarble announced on the 5th that it has taken proactive steps to engage with its community by releasing a developer video ahead of the 10th anniversary of its mobile MMORPG, Lineage 2: Revolution.
In the video released on May 22, Netmarble addressed user questions by sharing detailed information about the new Papurion server and its vision for the 10th anniversary. The video featured Jeon Tae-hyun, Executive Producer of Lineage 2: Revolution at Netmarble Neo, Planning Team Leader Ko Young-min, and popular influencer Susam, who engaged in an in-depth discussion about the game.
Lineage 2: Revolution will introduce the new world raid, Papurion, on the new server scheduled for a June update. Executive Producer Jeon introduced the new world raid boss, Papurion—the namesake of the new server—and emphasized the overwhelming, immersive fun of the raid itself.
True to its concept as a Water Dragon, the battle against Papurion takes place in a water-filled environment. The boss triggers massive splashes with every move, requiring players to calculate the impact of the water and strategize accordingly. The battlefield also features a unique 'underwater barrier' mechanic, forcing players to focus on positioning rather than just simple pattern recognition, creating a tense and engaging combat experience.
The game's core clan system will also undergo a major overhaul. Netmarble plans to introduce the 'Clan Boost World,' a server specialized for clans, which will offer maximum benefits for joining—including Red Diamond payback events based on clan level and participation, as well as cooperative play events—to foster closer collaboration among clan members.
The exceptional rewards commemorating the new server launch are also drawing attention. The Papurion server will provide special rewards worth a total of ₩1 million, including pre-registration bonuses and a free season pass that grants an LR-grade +16 selection chest and equipment slot enhancement materials. Additionally, the company plans to support player growth through up to 150k Red Diamonds and a concurrent Red Diamond payback event.
This developer video is significant as it marks a shift from traditional text-based developer notes to a communication style based on direct survey feedback from users. Producer Jeon outlined plans to renew existing content, improve difficulty and structure, and revamp battlefield and PVP content based on user feedback. Planning Team Leader Ko also expressed a firm commitment to improving service quality by promising the addition of large-scale content for clans and alliances.
Lineage 2: Revolution plans to continue rolling out various updates in the second half of the year based on user feedback. Notably, the team made a surprise announcement that they are preparing another new class, following the release of the Death Knight last year. Given that the game has historically introduced new classes on a three-year cycle, this is an highly unusual move that has significantly heightened user expectations.
Executive Producer Jeon stated that the development team is carefully reviewing every piece of valuable feedback from users and promised to prepare well for the upcoming 10th anniversary to deliver a service that truly resonates with the community.
Lineage 2: Revolution, which officially launched in December 2016, is a mobile MMORPG based on the Lineage 2 IP. It was praised at launch for elevating the standards of mobile games and remains one of Netmarble's most successful long-running titles as it approaches its 10th anniversary this year.
