The first official trailer for the new Resident Evil film has been released. Though it runs for less than two minutes, the trailer clearly establishes a tone that sets this film apart from previous entries in the franchise.
Directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on Barbarian and Weapons, this Resident Evil film is a reboot that features an original story unrelated to the games or the existing film series.
The story centers on Brian, a medical delivery driver who finds himself caught in a harrowing, chaotic night and an adrenaline-fueled fight for survival.
The trailer features key scenes from the film, accompanied by a message Brian leaves for a loved one. While the footage focuses on Brian, played by Austin Abrams, it also makes an impact with appearances by a grotesque-looking man and a horde of zombies.
Viewers can also see the distinct horror style of Zach Cregger, which differs significantly from the previous film series. At Sony's CinemaCon, Cregger stated that while the film captures the atmosphere of the games, it will avoid overly complex storytelling.
This new Resident Evil film is directed and written by Zach Cregger, with Shay Hatten (Ballerina) serving as a co-writer. The cast includes Austin Abrams in the lead role, alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Jack Cherry, Kali Reis, and Jonno Wilson.
The film was shot for IMAX and is scheduled for theatrical release on September 18. A release date for South Korea has not yet been announced.
