News has been reported by the foreign media outlet 'Veridty' that the classic adventure game series 'Broken Sword' is being produced as a live-action movie.

Story Kitchen, which handled the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' live-action movie series, is participating in the film production, and the original developer Revolution Revolution Software also has its name on the co-production credits. ‘Broken Sword’ is a point-and-click adventure game first released in 1996. Although it was not a mainstream mega-hit in Korea, among the overseas PC package game generation, it is considered one of the representative classic adventure masterpieces, alongside ‘The Secret of Monkey Island’, ‘The Longest Journey’, and ‘Syberia’. The game features a story that combines medieval knightly conspiracy theories with European historical mysteries. The structure follows American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nico Collard as they track down the Knights and the hidden treasure; however, among domestic gamers, it is often remembered as a work closer to a "Da Vinci Code-esque adventure game." The screenplay for this film is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, the screenwriter of the Disney live-action film Beauty and the Beast. Story Kitchen is a production company currently working on various video adaptation projects based on original games, in addition to the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ series. Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Lawrence Goldberg explained, “It is not simply about transferring games into movies, but about expanding a worldview that has continued for 30 years into a new medium.” Meanwhile, a total of five official titles have been released for the ‘Broken Sword’ series to date, and a remastered version of the first game, ‘Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged,’ was unveiled in 2024. Another new title, ‘Broken Sword: Parzival’s Stone,’ is also currently under development.
