Steam, the PC game distribution platform operated by Valve, is rolling out a major overhaul of its store tags.

On the 19th, Valve announced its store tag update plan via the Steam News Hub. The overhaul will add 17 new tags and remove 28 existing ones. The core objective is to improve the relevance between tags and games while cleaning up unnecessary, redundant tags.

Newly added tags include 'Bullet Heaven,' 'Desktop Companion,' 'Wolves,' and 'Capybaras.' This update will make it easier for users to find games featuring animals that have gained cult popularity among specific gaming communities, such as capybaras.

Conversely, tags that cause unnecessary redundancy or are subject to subjective interpretation are being removed. Tags like 'NSFW' and 'Mature' are being phased out as they overlap with existing categories such as 'Gore,' 'Violence,' and 'Sexual Content.' Additionally, subjective tags that often spark debate among users, such as 'Well-Written' or 'Masterpiece,' will also be removed.

Regarding the update, Steam stated, "It has been quite a while since we last adjusted our tags, and we have been steadily compiling a list of tags to add and remove. We hope this update will help players more easily find the games they want based on the genres, themes, and styles they prefer."
