On the 26th, Invictus Gaming took down Griffin in the first quarterfinal match of the 2019 LoL World Championship. Despite their hiccup in game 3, IG took out Griffin and closed the series in a dominant fashion and showed the world why they were the defending world champions.
IG’s Mid laner, Song "Rookie" Eui-jin, joined and Jeesun Park in the official LCK broadcast for the post-match interview to share his thoughts about the victory.
Congratulations on the victory. As the defending world champions, you’ve put on a performance well worth your title. How do you feel about the victory?
I’m glad to see that our preparation paid off. This is just the beginning, so from here on out, we’ll be meeting even tougher opponents.
How did you prepare for the quarterfinals?
We’ve put much focus in practicing our comfort picks during scrims. I think they've prepared their tank champions really well, but we just played better than them.
Why did you pick mid Aatrox?
Honestly, I think I didn’t play Aatrox for like almost half a year. However, they kept picking a tank in mid, we felt that an AD champion would do well against it, and they picked a favorable champion for Aatrox.
The LCK fans call you and TheShy “Big Brothers”. Can you say something to the Korean fans that support you?
Thank you so much for all the support, and I’m really happy to win over a Korean team. If I'm able to move further up in the tournament, I hope to play against SKT.
FPX vs Fnatic is up next. Who do you predict will move on?
Personally, I hope our fellow Chinese team FPX makes it, since a semifinal between the two LPL teams would mean that China would at least come in second. Fnatic is a really strong team, so I hope FPX just play the game at their own pace and take the victory.
