EVO 2019 entrant numbers revealed, numerous records broken

▲ Nearly 3,500 individuals are signed up to compete in Smash Ultimate at EVO 2019.

With less than three weeks until the largest fighting-game tournament in the world takes place, EVO 2019 is shaping up to be one for the ages. On Sunday night, James "Mr. Wiz" Cuellar, the President of EVO, revealed the final number of entrants for each of the nine tournament titles taking place at the event in Las Vegas on August 2.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature nearly 3,500 competitors from around the world, by far the most ever for a single title in the event's history. The previous record was Super Smash Bros for the Wii U back in 2016 with 2,656 entrants.

In addition to the single-most entrants for one game, six titles set their own highest entrants record since they debuted at the event: Smash Ultimate, Tekken 7, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat 11, Under Night In-Birth and SoulCalibur 7. Another milestone shattered is that, for the first time ever, seven games will have more than 1,000 individuals competing in it for fight-game glory.

EVO 2019 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from August 2-4. For more information, visit EVO's official site.
