With a wink, Blizzard squashes BlizzCon Diablo 4 rumor.

Today, the official Diablo Twitter account shared this blog post.

Before clicking on the link, the word "clarify" immediately stuck out to those aware of a persistent Diablo related rumor circulated around forums, subReddits and anywhere people chatter about video games.

Perhaps it was the premature reveal of Diablo 3 for Switch, or the strange Netflix related pseudo-announcement, but something caused BlizzCon fans to have a strong suspicion that a major Diablo announcement was in the works. I'm not just talking about a new class or scenario -- but a full-on Diablo game, brand new and ready to play at BlizzCon.

While not completely de-confirming the chance at Diablo 4 (some would argue this confirms it is on its way) the meat of the blog post is as follows:

"BlizzCon 2018 is almost here and we’ve seen a lot of rumors flying around about our plans for Diablo at the show. These are very exciting times—we currently have multiple teams working on different Diablo projects and we can’t wait to tell you all about them . . . when the time is right.

We know what many of you are hoping for and we can only say that “good things come to those who wait,” but evil things often take longer. We appreciate your patience as our teams work tirelessly to create nightmarish experiences worthy of the Lord of Terror.

While we won’t be ready to announce all of our projects, we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show."

So there it is.  Blizzard had to do something, as the anticipation of a new Diablo game was growing more fervent as BlizzCon approached. Presumably, there must have been a decision internally to stop things before they got too far and unequivocally deflate the hype before it burst in the companies face.

Then again, this could be the great double-fake of BlizzCon history!
