Paradox Interactive has launched Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition, an optimized Nintendo Switch 2 version of Colossal Order's city-building game, at a suggested retail price of $49, £41.49 or €49.
According to a release, the new version was made in collaboration with developer Tantalus Media and brings improved visuals, better performance, expanded building tools and new ways to play. A launch trailer was released alongside the news.
City-builders put players in charge of planning and running a city, from laying out roads and zones to keeping services such as power, water and transport working as the population grows.
The Expanded Edition is available now with a 10% launch discount until November 10th 2026. Players who already own Cities: Skylines on Nintendo Switch are eligible for a 70% loyalty discount on the new edition from October 28th 2026 to April 28th 2027, the release says.
What's new on Switch 2
The biggest change is space. The Expanded Edition offers 25 buildable tiles, up from the original 9-tile limit, so cities can spread across a much larger area. A map editor also lets players create and customize their own landscapes and maps before they start building.
There are two graphics options. A Performance option targets 60 frames per second (FPS) with upscaling and adjusted quality settings, while a Quality option targets 30 FPS and prioritizes visual fidelity. Keyboard and mouse input is supported alongside traditional controllers.
Other additions include precision placement, a distance indicator and updated snapping options for construction. An environmental controls panel adjusts the time of day, rain, fog and environmental coloring in real time, and a quick selection tool swaps between essential tools and assets.
Ten DLC packs included
The edition bundles 10 pieces of downloadable content (DLC): four expansions, one content creator pack, two radio stations and three additional DLCs. According to the release, that covers the After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities and Sunset Harbor expansions, plus Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, Match Day and Carols, Candles & Candy.
