Shueisha Games has confirmed that BAKUDO, a ball-sport boss-rush action game with a sci-fi school drama setting from Japanese studio SAYIL Games, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 (alongside PC via Steam) in 2027.

According to a release, the news came during Nintendo's Indie World showcase on October 28th. A new trailer aired with it. The footage focuses on school life at Soliris Academy, the game's elite training ground for the sport. An exact release date has not been shared yet; price and age rating are also still to be announced.

Shueisha Games also released a new key visual and logo. The art shows protagonist Yuria facing Aria (the top-ranked student at the academy) at the moment their match begins.

Ten days to beat the Stellar Eight

Boss-rush games strip out most of the exploration. Players fight one tough boss after another, and BAKUDO builds that around a ball sport. After enrolling at Soliris Academy, Yuria is given a reckless challenge: defeat the Stellar Eight, the school's top-ranked students, within ten days. Along the way she makes friends, clashes with rivals and, per the release, uncovers ‘a secret that could decide the fate of the world’.

The trailer introduces three central characters. Yuria is a new student in the Coreball Department; she enrolled to chase the one clue her missing father left behind. Evie, an upperclassman in the Support Department, is a ‘genius inventor’ and Yuria's partner. Aria is the calm, quiet top-ranked member of the Stellar Eight. She is also the one who hands Yuria her near-impossible trial.

BAKUDO is single-player. It will support Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, and it can be wishlisted on Steam now. A Nintendo eShop page is listed as coming soon.

SAYIL Games was founded in late 2022 by five university friends. BAKUDO is the independent team's debut title and is in full-scale development. Shueisha Games is the video game label of Shueisha, one of Japan's largest publishers, and works with studios in Japan and abroad on original games as well as adaptations of Shueisha properties.
