On the 15th, Group D matches in the Round of 16 for Google Play ASL Season 22 concluded at FreecUP Studio in Daechi-dong, Seoul. With Lee Young-han advancing in first place and Kim Jung-woo in second, two Zergs secured their spots in the quarterfinals, resulting in a top 8 consisting of 0 Protoss, 3 Terrans, and 5 Zergs. Furthermore, following the quarterfinal bracket draw, last season's champion Park Sang-hyeon—famous as 'JjapJaedong'—was paired against Lee Jae-dong, setting up the ASL Jaedong Derby.

In Set 1 of the losers' bracket, Kim Jae-hyun went for a Barracks Double, quickly built a Factory, and tech'd up to a Starport. Kim Jung-woo went for standard Mutalisks. Facing Kim Jae-hyun who prepared Valkyries, Kim Jung-woo dealt considerable damage to SCVs using his Mutalisks. Kim Jae-hyun pushed out with Bionic forces at the timing of three Valkyries, keeping his Valkyries alive in the first engagement while taking down numerous Mutalisks and Zerglings. However, it was difficult for the Terran forces to advance further; although he prepared a Dropship play as his trump card, Kim Jung-woo successfully held it off to take the victory.
In Set 2, Kim Jae-hyun built an 8-Barracks at his natural expansion to prepare early pressure. Since the starting positions were diagonal, Kim Jung-woo easily defended while losing only a single Drone, transitioning the game into a macro phase. Harassing Kim Jae-hyun, who chose a Bionic composition after producing Mutalisks, Kim Jung-woo secured his third gas expansion smoothly and easily repelled the opponent's attacks. Controlling the opponent's natural expansion with Defilers and Lurkers, Kim Jung-woo defeated Kim Jae-hyun 2–0 to advance to the final match.
In Set 1 of the final match between Jang Yoon-chul and Kim Jung-woo, Kim Jung-woo opened with a 9 Spawning Pool, while Jang Yoon-chul attempted a bold 11 Double Nexus. With horizontal starting positions where Zerglings could end the game on the spot, Jang Yoon-chul, whose scouting was also late, was defeated in just three minutes. Set 2 saw both players start greedily. Kim Jung-woo prepared Hydralisks after Zerglings and Scourges, while Jang Yoon-chul scouted with a Corsair and prepared ground forces.
Kim Jung-woo produced Mutalisks at an off-beat timing and launched a well-timed attack, picking off merging Archons and multiple Corsairs to give Zerg a massive lead. Adding even more Mutalisks and Scourges, Kim Jung-woo destroyed the Photon Cannons in the Protoss main base, forcing the GG to advance to the quarterfinals as the second-place finisher from Group D.
In the quarterfinal bracket draw held after the matches, the matchups were finalized: Group A features Lee Young-han vs. Yoo Young-jin, Group B features Lee Jae-ho vs. Kim Jung-woo, Group C features Park Sang-hyeon vs. Lee Jae-dong, and Group D features Shin Sang-moon vs. Kim Min-chul. The quarterfinals will take place on September 21, 22, 28, and 29.
