A new JRPG titled 'Under Mythos', created with the involvement of veteran developers, has been revealed. Under Mythos is the debut project from KADATH, a newly established studio founded by Yoichi Miyaji, producer of the Lunar and Grandia series.
The game is a JRPG that combines peaceful daily life at a hot spring inn with dangerous dungeon exploration. The protagonist is a cat who, while wandering in search of "Mother," enters another world, discovers a mysterious hot spring inn, and begins working there. Players must explore dungeons in the otherworld and gather materials to manage the inn and welcome guests.
The core themes running through the game are healing and madness. Beneath cute characters and the setting of a hot spring inn lies a dark and bizarre world based on the Cthulhu Mythos.
The development team features veterans who have worked on several renowned JRPGs. Character design is handled by Atsuko Nishida, who designed Pikachu and various other Pokémon, while the scenario is written by Takumi Miyajima, best known for Tales of the Abyss.
Music is composed by Noriyuki Iwadare, known for his work on Grandia, Lunar, and the Ace Attorney series, with Yoichi Miyaji serving as producer. Miyaji stated that he aims to create an unpredictable hybrid JRPG by contrasting the peaceful hot spring inn with dungeons where a single mistake can cost players everything.
The game has just entered the early stages of development. The developer stated that rather than unilaterally presenting a finished product, they plan to build the characters and world together by listening to players' opinions and ideas throughout development.
Under Mythos is scheduled for release on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2028. Detailed information about the game can be found on its Steam page.
