On August 27, SwordPandaGames revealed a new trailer for 'Sword Sage: Awakening,' a third-person action RPG based on Chinese mythology and folklore, at the Gamescom 2026 Future Games Show (FGS). Players step into the shoes of Pei Sanniang, a novice disciple of the Yuangong Sect, to confront a thousand-year-old karma and yaoguai.
Combat revolves around a system of evading cyan and striking red. Cyan signifies the enemy's weapon or incoming attacks, while red represents the enemy's body. Players block with their weapon while watching for attacks incoming from high, mid, and low positions, evading with the correct direction and timing before executing a counterattack. Powerful enemies unleash unpredictable basic attacks and unblockable lethal skills shifting across high, mid, and low stances, making the precise and repeated execution of evading cyan and striking red the key to victory.
Weapons can easily break during battle against yaoguai, but Yuangong Sect disciples can quickly forge and swap between two weapons inside the scabbard on their back, as well as learn various skills through weapon proficiency. For instance, 'Quick-Draw Slash' is a skill that delivers a swift strike to enemies while forging the weapon, while the more powerful 'Quick-Draw Flame Slash' requires swift forging at precise timing to deal fire damage to foes.
In addition, Yuangong Sect disciples utilize 'Spirit Molding' to gather spiritual energy and forge divine weapons. Weapons are divided into three types—three-foot swords, horse-cleaving daos, and dual blades—with each weapon category allowing players to master a variety of martial arts techniques, while every individual weapon features its own unique skill.
'Sword Sage: Awakening' will be published by 4Divinity and is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
