Webzen recorded ₩77.3 billion in revenue and ₩11 billion in operating profit for the first half of 2026. While the lack of new releases led to a decline in top-line figures, the company saw an improvement in profitability, with net profit rising 89% to ₩15.1 billion.
Webzen (CEO Kim Tae-young) announced its H1 2026 financial results today (August 6). Revenue and operating profit for the first half reached ₩77.3 billion and ₩11 billion, respectively, marking a 4% and 26.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. Conversely, net profit surged by 89%, a result of the base effect from a temporary decline in H1 2025 performance. In millions of won, revenue was 77382 million, operating profit was 11035 million, and net profit was 15137 million, compared to 80665 million, 15076 million, and 8007 million, respectively, during the same period last year.
Q2 results alone showed ₩38 billion in revenue, ₩5.6 billion in operating profit, and ₩6.3 billion in net profit, down 2.8%, 8.4%, and 6.4% year-on-year, respectively. Compared to the previous quarter, revenue fell 3.5% and net profit dropped 28.5%, while operating profit rose 5.2%. Q1 revenue, operating profit, and net profit were 39373 million, 5378 million, and ₩8829 million. The overall H1 performance was primarily driven by a decline in sales due to the absence of new game launches.
Starting in the second half of 2026, Webzen will begin unveiling its long-prepared new titles, entering the formal launch preparation phase. 'PROJECT D1,' a strategy game currently under development by subsidiary Webzen Crevic, is scheduled to have its first reveal in the second half of the year, with the development schedule being adjusted for a 2027 release.
'PROJECT D1' is based on the Naver Webtoon 'Tyrant of the Defense Game,' with news of its production first announced last year (2025). The game is being developed as a hybrid genre combining tower defense and dungeon offense, translating the original webtoon into a refined 2.5D game with dot graphics. Anticipation is building among fans of the original work, driven by the combination of a narrative that follows the original's solid storyline and strategic gameplay elements.
'Gate of Gates,' which aims to be a strategy defense title, is also progressing smoothly. It is designed to allow players to experiment with various tactics by adding a roguelike progression system to the inherent strategy of the defense genre, with additional information expected as early as the second half of 2026.
Additionally, 'PROJECT G,' a new title based on the MU IP that recently debuted its first cinematic trailer, is a major project targeting Western markets. Subsidiary Webzen Redstar is handling development using Unreal Engine 5. 'TERBIS,' which entered a full-scale reorganization following its closed beta test (CBT), has announced it will be exhibited at Comiket, a subculture event in Japan.
Alongside technology investments for game development, the company continues to pursue market share expansion overseas. Business models utilizing Webzen's existing game IPs, such as MU and METIN, which have high recognition abroad, are becoming stable cash cows and a core pillar of the company's international business.
Webzen CEO Kim Tae-young stated, "We are preparing an active business schedule for the second half of the year to promote the new games slated for next year. We will continue our efforts to enhance shareholder value, including the planned payment of special dividends, and continue investing in our game business to prepare for mid-to-long-term growth."
