Glass Cannon Unplugged—known for adapting a wide range of video games such as Frostpunk and Apex Legends into board games—and licensing management firm Genuine Entertainment have unveiled the TRPG rulebook Diablo: The Roleplaying Game via Kickstarter.
The officially licensed roleplaying game from Blizzard brings on board Mickey Nielsen, who has contributed to the novelizations and lore of Diablo, StarCraft, and Warcraft. Joining him are Francesco Nepitello and Umberto Pignatelli—the design duo behind The One Ring, the Lord of the Rings TRPG, and War of the Ring board game—Horus Heresy novelist Graham McNeill, Arkham Horror: The Card Game’s lead designer MJ Newman, and Cullen Bunn of Harrow County (Dark Horse Comics). This powerhouse team spans board games, tabletop RPGs, comics, novels, and video games.
Game System and Mechanics
Breaking from classic D&D rules, Diablo: The Roleplaying Game features a bespoke system designed to capture the franchise’s relentless combat and visceral slaughter. All gameplay is resolved using only six-sided dice, allowing adventurers to face ever-rising waves of demonic foes.
Iconic Classes
Players can choose from the series’ signature classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, and Sorcerer. Rather than starting as greenhorns, characters begin as fully realized, battle-hardened heroes—ready to dive straight into the heart of the story. The designers emphasize the integration of moral quandaries and legendary equipment, ensuring a faithful blend of Diablo’s dark themes with tabletop storytelling.
Components and Extras
The core rulebook spans over 300 richly illustrated pages, featuring artwork from Blizzard’s in-house team as well as renowned freelance illustrators. It also includes narrative scenarios crafted by genre luminaries. In addition to the hardcover book, backers can access class-specific miniatures, game maps, art prints, and a variety of both physical and digital goodies.
Kickstarter Campaign
Diablo: The Roleplaying Game is slated to launch its Kickstarter funding campaign in Q4 2025.
