GEN Score: "Lehends could say that he knows our players well... The more we hear that, the more we get determined to beat him."

On Feb. 9, in the 2023 LCK Spring Split, Gen.G swept Nongshim RedForce 2-0 and collected their sixth straight victory. After losing the first match of the season, Gen.G won all of their matches and positioned themselves alongside T1 with a 6-1 record. After the match, head coach Go “Score” Dong-bin and Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon joined the press room for an interview.

Congrats on the 6-game winning streak. How do you feel?

Score: We had to win 2-0 today to tie T1 in 1st place, and I’m happy that we did. Winning six straight matches is a difficult feat to achieve. I’m very pleased that the players are consistently improving, and that we’re extending the winning streak through their improvement.

Doran: It’s a relief that we’ve risen to 1st place with our winning streak, but my individual performance wasn’t too good. I guess I need more practice. In both games today, my laning wasn’t as good as I expected, and that’s regretful.

It seemed that your draft was kind of different from before. What was the reason?

Score: In the LCK, the drafts were mostly standard. We’ve been preparing many different draft scenarios in case many bans are placed on the main champions. We showed one of those scenarios today.

The games are now played on the 13.1B patch. How is it?

Score: The biggest part of the patch is that Yuumi had a big nerf. In that regard, teams will be able to save a ban. Teams can leave out having to deal with it, so my biggest focus is how it would change the draft.

(To Doran) Game 2 was difficult for you, but in the end, you had a great engage, which led to Gen.G’s win. How did you decide to open a fight?

Doran: I kept looking for the right angle to initiate, and there wasn’t a chance, so I thought it would be difficult. However, there was one opening where Aphelios stood in the front line, and I was able to pounce on him, and we won the fight.

Your next opponent is KT Rolster. Kiin said that since Lehends knows Gen.G well, they’ll be able to come up with a great idea to beat you. How do you think it’ll go?

Score: Lehends could say that he knows our players well since he was on our team last year, but the more we hear that, the more we get determined to beat him, so I’m not worried at all.

Doran: Since we played with Lehends for a year, he might know us well, but our bot duo is new, so I’m not worried.

You’ve won all your matches after losing against T1 in the first match. Do you think you’ll be able to take them down the next time you meet them?

Score: I believe our next match against T1 is our first match of round 2. Since there’s still some time left, I haven’t thought of that match yet, but if we’re able to continue our winning streak until then, we’ll be able to face them with a much better performance. We’ll have a much higher chance of winning as well.

Any last comments?

Score: As we’ve been on a winning streak, our performance has improved consistently through the streak. We’ll practice more and work hard so that this flow will continue. Please keep cheering for us.
