In today's market, there are many gaming mats and many different sizes. If you are currently looking for your ideal gaming mat, you will surely have doubts about what size you should buy, so below we are going to tell you what the advantages of each of them are and recommend which is the ideal size for you according to your needs. .

First of all, it must be said that there is no standard regarding the size of gaming mousepads; each manufacturer has its own dimensions, and a size S mat from one manufacturer may be smaller than another, but larger than a third. Therefore, rather than sizes, we could talk about sizes since their dimensions will be approximate in any case.

In any case, as you already know, in the end, the use of a mouse pad will depend on each user, since the vast majority of gaming mouse sensors on the market work on any surface without problem, with the exception of transparent glass.

Gaming mouse pad sizes:

Taking into account what was mentioned about the approximate dimensions, these would be the most common sizes according to the size of the mat:

  • S: 200 x 250mm
  • M: 250 x 350mm
  • L: 350 x 450mm
  • XL: 400 x 450mm
  • Extended: 420 x 900mm

There is another factor to take into account, and that is the thickness. The thinnest mats can measure only 1 mm thick, although in this case, they are usually the rigid ones since they normally start at 2 mm thick, and can reach up to 6 mm in the largest ones on the market.

What advantages does each size have?

In this regard, it is a bit subjective to each user, but as a general rule, a smaller mousepad will give us the logical advantage that it will take up less space on the desktop, while a larger mousepad will give us more space to move the mouse around it . . However, a small mat will have less grip on the table than a large one and will tend to move more while in use.

A special mention must be made of the Extended versions of the gaming mats, designed to occupy almost the entire table so that we can even put the keyboard on top of them, making them stay more fixed in place and, in turn, making make it more comfortable to use it since we will be supporting our wrists on the soft mat. At the same time, this type of mat gives our desk a more gaming aesthetic.

So what size should you buy?

As always, it will depend on the needs of each user but also on preferences. Not everyone likes to have a small mat, or even if you would like to have an extended size mat, the size of your table may not allow it.

We would recommend S-size gaming mats only to users who have big space problems and who, at the same time, use very high resolutions on the mouse so that they don't have to make large and sudden movements.

For its part, the M size is the most common and represents a middle ground for everything, being perfectly valid for all types of users. It could be said that this size, and even the L size, is the wild card.

However, XL-sized mousepads would only be recommended for users who use very low resolutions on the mouse and, therefore, need to make very large movements with it.

Obviously, this will only be possible if there is plenty of room on the table, since they usually have the "problem" that they are too high and, on some tables, they could even "hit" against the monitor depending on their size.

Finally, we consider the Extended size to be the ideal as long as we have enough space on the table, since not only will it not move from its place at any time, but also, as we have explained before, it gives the desk an excellent appearance and It will give us extra comfort by resting our wrists on soft even when we only use the keyboard.
