UPDATE Nov. 24: In a now-deleted, leaked video, Team Liquid confirmed that Bjergsen will be joining the team as their new mid laner.
UPDATE Nov. 23: Team Liquid have confirmed their acquisition of Rogue AD carry Hans Sama ahead of the 2022 LCS season following reports. TL are reportedly signing Bjergsen as their new mid laner to round out their roster for next season.
UPDATE Nov. 22: Team Liquid have confirmed that Bwipo has been signed as the team's new top laner for LCS 2022. The announcement was made less than a week after it was confirmed that 2021 top laner Barney "Alphari" Morris would be headed back to the LEC for the 2022 season.
UPDATE Nov. 19: Team Liquid has confirmed it is re-signing Jonas "Kold" Anderson to be the team's assistant coach in 2022.
Kold was assistant coach in 2021 before the mid-summer resignation of Joshua "Jatt" Leesman, which left Kold as the interim head coach for the remainder of last season. Kold has experience working with new TL head coach Guilhoto during the pair's time together on Origen.
UPDATE Nov. 19: Team Liquid have confirmed Guilhoto as their new head coach for the 2022 LCS season. The signing was made public within a day of Immortals confirming that Guilhoto would be leaving IMT.
Update Nov. 15: It was reported during the Dot Esports League of Legends Free Agency show that Team Liquid would be signing André "Guilhoto" Pereira Guilhoto as its head coach for the 2022 LCS season. Guilhoto, who coached Immortals in 2021, will reportedly be at the helm for a team that is reportedly finalizing the signings of Bwipo, Bjergsen, and Hans Sama to play alongside Santorin and CoreJJ.
Team Liquid Academy support Bill "Eyla" Nguyen will also reportedly be added as a reserve to the LCS roster in the event that CoreJJ doesn't get his green card before the beginning of the season. CoreJJ has declared NA residency after four total years in the country — 2015 as the AD carry for Dignitas and the last three years with Team Liquid — but if he does not yet have his green card, Eyla would have to start in his place to allow the import slots for Bwipo and Hans Sama.
This report would leave Tactical and Jensen off the roster for Team Liquid going forward. Jensen mentioned on a recent stream that he and Yiliang "Doubelift" Peng had gotten into the early stages of forming a superteam for the 2022 LCS season, but that the idea had since fizzled.
The future of Team Liquid interim head coach Jonas "Kold" Andersen, who stepped in following the sudden resignation of Joshua "Jatt" Leesman in the middle of the 2021 season, is currently unknown. However, should Guilhoto join TL, Kold's previous experience in working with Guilhoto on Origen in the LEC could prove to be valuable synergy to the coaching staff of NA's next budding superteam.
According to a video by Travis Gafford, there is a “ninety-percent certainty” Team Liquid have decided on their 2022 roster. Following reports by Upcomer that Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau will be filling in the top lane while Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg will be taking the mid lane position, Gafford’s Tweet reveals the final addition to TL’s roster is Steven "Hans sama" Liv in the AD carry position.
Gafford was confident in the accuracy of the news, stating, “That’s what I’m fairly certain is going to be Team Liquid’s roster. Again, something would have to change last minute, or just a ton of people would have to be wrong.”
The news raises questions about TL players Edward "Tactical" Ra and LCS champion Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen. No information has been released regarding Tactical’s future with the team. According to the report from Upcomer, TL was experimenting with Jensen to switch to the AD carry role and be paired with CoreJJ. Like Tactical, no information is available on Jensen’s future with the time.
Though Rogue had disappointing results in playoffs compared to their regular season performance, they placed second during the Spring Split and third in the Summer Split. Should the report be true, Hans Sama's final games with the European organization took place at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship — exiting the tournament in the group stage. This would put Hans Sama with former world champion Jo "CoreJJ" Yong-in in the bottom lane for TL's next LCS season.
The report comes after a successful but inconsistent year for TL. Dealing with several roster changes and player unavailabilities, the team placed second in the LCS’s Spring Split and Summer Split. They were one of the North American teams invited to Worlds, where they were eliminated in the group stage after finishing 3-3.
I write. I rap. I run. That’s pretty much it.
